Description of Little Blue

One of the smaller herons, Little Blue ‘Egretta caerulea’, is no less fascinating.  It breeds in the Gulf states of the US, Central and South America.  Little Blue can frequently be seen around marshes, estuaries and ponds.  They stalk small fish in shallow water walking and running as they do so.  The Little Blue’s plumage is dark slate-blue with a red-violet neck.  I saw this Little Blue at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida.  However, I frequently see them around the ponds in my neighborhood.  I thought the gold leaf background added to his regal bearing

This painting was juried into the Colored Pencil Society of America 2020 ‘Explore This’ mixed media online exhibit.

The painting is also featured in ‘CP TREASURES 7, Colored Pencil Masterworks from Around the Globe’ .
