New Work and Work in Progress

It is always rewarding to complete a new piece of art. “Your Other Left” based on a visit to Venice, FL fishing pier last year was recently published in ‘Colored Pencil Treasures’. It will be in the upcoming North Tampa Art League exhibit at the Carrolwood Cultural Center in February. I was fascinated by how the pigeons all lined up on the railings of the pier all facing in the same direction except the occasional renegade.

“The Big Gulp” was based on a visit near sunset to the Venice, Florida jetty. A young boy finished fishing and tossed a bait shrimp to a snowy egret. I followed the egret around for a half hour as he tossed the shrimp in the air, dropped it on the ground, and played with it. I never did see him swallow it. This painting won the People’s Choice Award in the February members exhibit, an honorable mention in the UArt Competition and was accepted in the Colored Pencil Society of America’s ‘Explore This’ international mixed media online competition.

My current work in progress is “Incoming” based on a delightful spring afternoon in a friend’s garden in Ohio. I hope to have it finished by next week-end in time to get it scanned and framed for the Cultural Center exhibit. We are moving at the end of March with all the chaos that that involves so I may be not painting for a while.
